Context

As we intend to continue the promotion of a balanced and harmonious global development through the strengthening of South-South cooperation and the implementation of the engagements taken in various international meetings such as those relating to the Millenium Development Goals (MDGs), the Kingdom of Morocco organizes, in partnership with the United Nations Development Program, the first African Conference for Human Development on April the 6th and 7th 2007. The theme of the conference is “Cooperation of Proximity: stakes and perspectives”.

Holding this conference, positioned between the adoption of the Millenium Development Goals, the Havana Program of Action and the Horizon 2015, will constitute a chance to assess achievements and allow for exchanges and experience sharing. The objective is to establish concrete partnerships between African countries, through a series of South-South and triangular projects aiming at building capacity for an integrated local development.

Three main themes will be approached during this meeting in form of workshops:

- Capacity building in the framework of the Millenium Development Goals related to poverty reduction: presentation of national experiences with a special emphasis on the local capacities that need to be strengthened in order to insure a better planning and design of projects in accordance with the MDGs.

- Gender Equality: review of the initiatives contributing to gender mainstreaming.

- Governance, for an efficient allocation and management of resources.
